Lord Christopher Laycock
At just 65 years of age, he has terminal Motor Neurone Disease (MND) which he was diagnosed in March 2025, although his friends around him had noticed something had changed even a few years ago.
He made the choice to have a Rig fitted so that he could be fed through a tube and released from hospital in May to die at his family home in Saltdean. He has a full time live in care person and 4 visits per day from other careers who come in for short period each day.
He has also been suppled with a Ventilator which can help him breath at night time, but he is not allowed to use it yet, as we are waiting for more funding, so that training can be provided and a night watch person who can watch to make sure he is safe while he sleeps.
He loves to remember his past, like being a very young Landlord in Eastbourne’s Windsor Tavern, and living in London running pubs there. I like to remind him of how we met, 30 odd years ago when he opened a Fast Food outlet opposite my Ladbrokes Betting Shop, he was the first person to make be Tuna and Pasta Bake, he really was quite a chef!
The Derek Mobile has been most useful for him as without it he would not be able to travel and do these bucket list things! He has donated a Private Number plate to add on to the Vehicle.Â
